A Simple Guide to Coffee-to-Water Ratios

Making good coffee isn't about guesswork. It's about consistency.

One of the simplest ways to improve your coffee at home is to use the same coffee-to-water ratio every time.

The ratio is exactly what it sounds like: The amount of coffee compared to the amount of water. Get it right, and you'll brew a balanced cup. Change it, and you'll change the flavour.

Why it matters

Using the same ratio each time removes the guesswork from brewing. It also makes it much easier to understand what's influencing the flavour of your coffee.

Too little coffee can produce a brew that tastes thin or watery. Too much coffee can make it feel overly strong and make it harder for the water to extract the coffee evenly.
